History of the Spotsylvania Church of Christ

  • February 15, 1987: First meeting at the home of Richard and Jan Male, with 17 in attendance.
  • March 01, 1987: The meeting place was moved to the home of Bob and Cynthia Browning as they had a large rec room in their basement where we could meet, with 27 in attendance. This was supposed to be for one year. We also started having Wednesday evening classes.
  • April 5, 1987: Started holding Bible classes on Sunday mornings.
  • July 26, 1987: Started holding Sunday evening services.
  • Average attendance for Sunday AM services from 15 Feb to 06 Sep, 1987 was 31.
  • September 13, 1987: First full time minister (Russell Jurek).
  • Average attendance for Sunday AM services from 13 Sep to 27 Dec, 1987 was 45.
  • October 01, 1989: Started holding Sunday services at the Jazzercise building on Lafayette Blvd.  Wednesday classes were held at various locations over the next 7 years: the Browning’s home; Spotsylvania Fire Dept. training room; and various homes. 
  • July 1988: Purchased land at 10609 Piedmont Dr.
  • June 1989: Received water/sewer easement from Carl Silvers to connect in Cobblestone.
  • 1991 to 1998: Craig Baugh was the part time minister. 
  • September, 1997: Moved into the new building.
  • 1998 to 2000: Various members served as speakers. Elders did an extensive search for a full time minister.
  • December 2000: Richard Perrault arrived as a full time minister for the congregation.
  • December 2004: Moved into the new addition.
  • May 2008: King George congregation started (planting started in fall 2007).
  • April 2008 to June 2009: Brian King was an intern minister under Richard Perrault. 
    He moved back to Texas for training in missionary work in Brazil. 
  • November, 2009: Started a new time schedule for Sunday's worship.
